Network. Debate. Understand.
Founded in 2015, the Victoria University of Wellington Politics Society (PolSoc) acts as a representative body for students of Political Science and its related disciplines. Our membership base has grown at a rapid pace, and since our inception we have provided a broad array of debates, panel discussions, networking opportunities and social events for students.
We provide a positive environment for students to engage with one another, politicians and academics on the big political questions of our time.
PolSoc is not aligned to any political party or group and is dedicated to maintaining its neutrality on all issues, thus providing an independent platform where any student can express and share their views.
We do establish and maintain relationships with many clubs, embassies and political bodies from all sides of the spectrum. Our aim is to promote political discourse and contribute to our members' ability to critically evaluate their political environment through comprehensive discussion and debate - be that political, social, philosophical, economic, or legal in nature.
Our Executive is democratically elected at our AGM each year and our constitution holds dear principles of inclusion and accountability. All Executive Committee meetings are open to the public and we often form subcommittees to help organize events. These subcommittees provide opportunities for the wider membership to play a larger role in PolSoc. Our two largest are our discussion group Political Arena Victoria (PAV) and Rostra Victoria, our article platform.
Regardless of where you stand politically, even if you have no stance at all, every student is welcome to be a part of PolSoc and attend our events!
